Akai MPD32 + Kontrol X1 Software Query

Hi guys
I am currently using both AKAI MPD32 + NI Kontrol X1 custom mapped in my sets. My question is, do I need to keep NI Controller Editor + Vyzez MPD32 running when performing? I am worried it may cause some conflicts with my system or I shouldn't have it running the way it is - would be great if somebody could shed some light!

Many thanks

Hi guy just wondering if anyone has an answer for this?

I also noticed when I plug out my Kontrol X1 and plug it back in, i literally need to restart my machine it to be responsive again which is odd. Closing Ableton / restarting Control Editor etc does not seem to make any difference, and only upon full restart does the controller become responsive.

Thanks !!

You can have them closed.

Vyzex just dumps data to or from the mpd and the mpd stores it. Once you are done doing any kind of editing, you don't need to open it. I almost never ever open it.

Your mpd can operate perfectly fine without it.

For the controller editor, you can close that also. NI software runs in the background and takes care of your device for you.

So that is two less windows you need open (I don't even remember the last time I've opened either one). And you don't need to open them at all unless you are editing the actual controllers. If you're just Using the controllers, the work on their own.

Thanks for the reply yur2die4!

Thats great news, I obviously am setting it up wrong. When I open Ableton my X1 is non-responsive altogether until I launch the controller editor.
MPD32 *does* function but not under the right MPDRX Mapping til I open the Vyzez, but that may be just as simple as me selecting the right preset on my MPD32.
Thanks for the help man!

Do you hold Shift and hit Hotcue (midi) when you're trying to use it in Ableton Live? That is supposed to be the midi mode.

For the mpd, if you want to make things easier on yourself you could maybe use vyzex to rearrange your presets so #1 is the one you want for Live.

hey, i tried your tips but alas it still does nothing. Funnily the X1 is light up and some buttons light up when touched, but when i press shift + hotcue the X1 seems to just go blank and a full restart is needed before I can use it again. Very odd indeed. Will try the MPD tip though.

hey, anyone using an X1 live come across a similar problem?
Seems like if I plug out my X1 and plug it back in, its totally unresponsive even after restarting ableton and what not. a full restart is needed before it will work again?
thanks!
