I don't speak about this very short fade made to not 'clicking', I speak from a full possibility to make a long or short crossfade.

Cause we need for example to make smooth crossfades (long or short) between synth pads or many material. Think about it : Protools, DPerformer, Logic....
I think it's very usefull! In the arrange mode, on the timeline!
To make crossfades of durations varied between the clips, is a very significant functionality...

yea this would be very useful for vocal tracks

...we think of it since Live 1. I mean, some of us including me do work with Pro Tools since a long time. This version saw a huge internal restructuring of the whole sample playback stuff. This makes it easier for us to start working on
the arranger crossfade. It is one of the top items on our never ending todo list.

Just out of nerdy curiosity, can you please let me know by adding the ability to do crossfades, you essentially have the ability to play at least 2 simultaneous clips from the same track?

the answer is yes and no. Yes, because if you perform a crossfade in realtime
you need two players. No, because you could render the crossfade into a file ( like pro tools does it ) and no, because it might be possible that the time strech / warper which needs to do some very short and constantly repeating crossfades anyway may be be used to accomplish the crossfade. We are discussing various scenarios and no decission about details yet.

Hi Robert,

I don't mean to be presumptious, but here's one tiny little feature wish - please, before you finalize your decision on crossfades, take a look at (Sonic Foundry->Sony) Vegas. IMO, they had the most elegant real-time fades/crossfades implemtation since version 1.0.

I can understand your argument. However, you do not imagine the constraint that your answer implies: that under intends to have to create two tracks to draw curves of volumes only at the beginning or end of the clips. You can envisage the possibility of creating crossfades for clips in length which do not require a wrap and loop mode.
Imagine that I recorded in linear mode a succession of atmospheric/ textures/ strings/ long sustains sounds, pads, etc.
I don't want to loop them inevitably, but fade between them.

For example, you include in LIVE 5, a "freeze track" feature, which manufactures in fact a temporary audio file. I don't understand why you could not use the same principle for the "crossfaded" clips. You affirm that crossfades feature poses too many problems for the loops in time stretch... but you use minis bounce for freeze "temporaly" the tracks... Well, the principe could be the same for crossfades and fades....

It is a pity, cause I find Live marvelous!. Ableton praise this software as being a full production equipment, and this function is cruelly lacking to your software. I have enough of it to switch (with Rewire) from Live to Logic or Digital Performer and from DP/Logic to Live only for creating crossfades. This rigidity is too constraining

why not have the crossfades completely realtime? it wouldnt be any different than having multiple track and using the AB crossfader between them right? i dont like the notion of having to render a temporary file.

Mode AB is quite as constraining.... It is much simpler "to draw" a curve of insipid directly on a section of the clip (or between two clips which must be based on the same track). I need to assemble sounds of same textures, to as much do it on the same track, thanks to the crossfades. Why become complicated the life by using such complicated solutions (AB mode, volume curves on differents tracks)? There is only to observe simplicity to create curves the insipid ones in DP or Logic or Protools.

Crossfade in real time? sure !... i wan't to hear the cross fading between clips ON THE SAME TRACK! Cause why should I use 2 tracks for the same kind of sound?

oh man oh man, robert, this is good news that you're even looking at it! I'll be doing bigger and better projects the second you release a product with crossfades in the arrange view!

I persist in and continuous to affirm that this functionality should be available as fast as possible! It is much more significant than that I could read in others topics which last for ever while speaking about details cosmetic and esthetics...
