Hi,

I have a problem transposing or changing the tempo in ableton. I know the warp tool but if i, let's say, sliced up a sample and have put it in a drumrack and then i decide to transpose it, it automatically changes the tempo because this track is not warped anymore, even though it was in the original audio track. Why is it so hard to just pitch down a track without changing the tempo and vice versa. The warp tool is useful, but i figured there has to be another way, considered the fact that audacity can even pitch a track without changing the tempo. I'd love to hear your solutions or experiences.

Live changes the pitch of a track without changing tempo using warping.

When you slice a track, you slice the clip into smaller samples individually hosted by sample instruments.

The instruments themselves do not support retaining tempo with pitch change. Audacity doesn't act as a sample instrument. You do not connect a keyboard to it and play samples chromatically and instantaneously at the press of a key on a keyboard.

There are some other vsts out there that can hold a tempo while you change pitch. Some even have their own types of slicing.

Recently, Max 4 Live has been updated to support Max 7. With it are a few pitch/time/stretch/tuning upgrades and there are some example instruments available as a download pack.

One of them is sort of like a super basic sampler but it'll keep the time of a clip for you.
You can give it a try, but don't be surprised if your CPU meter goes over 9,000 when you have 16 instances.
