Is it possible to control the instrument preset select from Push/Push2 (below in red) without using Max4Live (which takes up another marco slot for tools like Dial4Preset)

Any ideas? Also effects presets seem to work very well no in 9.5 ( auto mapping of controls et al), however limited success with instruments.

Has anyone found an 9.5 tricks for navigating VST presents and controls.

It is not possible to browse presets for VSTs from Push. Apparently "some" AU plugins you can but VST you cannot.

What you can do is browse Live Instrument Racks and if the rack contains a VST it loads that up with the preset that was saved.

Therefore if you created an instrument rack for each preset you could, in theory, browse your instrument.

"That would take ages" I hear you ask. Correct! But some of us like the possibility of this so much we have done the hard work for many plugins (Omnisphere, Komplete, Sylenth and so on) and most of us ask for simple donations to keep support going.

Funnily though, this same process is ALSO required for Komplete Kontrol with 3rd party VSTs and also Akai Advance (though they do much of this for you). Once it's done you can browse for and load up anything in Live (VST, Live Instruments, Loops, Samples, Racks, Effects etc etc).

False, it is possible if the VST exposes it's presets to the DAW, as is the case when you can change preset from that "preset menu" in device view. And is also limited to the first bank.

Well I was trying to say it in the least confusing way possible but as Login says:

You can sometimes browse some vst presets to some degree. Which ones is a mystery and how to do it from Push without Max is not 100% clear but rest assured it may be possible in some cases some of the time for at least some presets in some VSTs.

I think it will only show in that menu if the VST developer has used the "standard" stienberg vst format to creat there synth but most develops don't use that is what I read on another forum.. so don't quote me but ya.. maybe..

as far changing presets from a knob IDK

If the plug in exposes its presets or has in someway MIDI program change functionality then hte presets can be changed with a knob, you will need a m4l device as KB control http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... rd-control

At least, I can select via Push 2 the presets of Replika & Driver from NI, the only 2 plugins I have.

The trick is you can select the preset only after having loaded the plugin first. It's a 2-step process ...

1) LOAD THE PLUGIN : click Add Device - Go to Plug-ins - Load your plugin

2) CHOOSE YOUR PRESET : Click Browse - Select your preset and load it

Note: for step 2, be sure to have selected your plugin with the button above the display

It's very handy!

Can anyone please comment on whether Push 2 will display and correctly label which parameters of third party plugins are being controlled by the encoders?

The new Behringer xTouch will automatically display these third party plugin parameters without the need to manually input their names. If Push 2 can not also perform this task it would be extremely disappointing.

Yes this is possible. Any parameters you map from a vst using configure will have the parameter name attached. You cannot rename the parameters so sometimes a long name is abbreviated and can be hard to make out but after a bit you can tell what is what.

For example if I bought Push 2, turned it on for the first time and opened Uhe Diva or Omnisphere or SoundToys Echoboy (I have a lot of plugins), would Push 2 automatically map some parameters to the encoders and display their names or would it map nothing until it was configured to do so?

Srly, we have answered this one thousand times already.

1.- If the plug in has 32 or less parameters it is mapped automatically, if not you have to map it manually. This threshold can be changed up to 128.

2.- The order of parameters when automapping is given by the plug in developer it might not be usefull.

u-he Diva, for example, will have no parameters mapped, unless you're using an edited options.txt file. But automapping is, in my opinion, useless for a such a synth - you'd have it all in a jumbled mess across 16 banks.

The best thing to do at the moment is to map the parameters in meaningful banks yourself, and then right click the VST and "Save as default config". You only have to do this once and is well worth it.

From there, every time you load the plugin it'll be with your very own configuration that makes sense to you.

Push is an extension of live, so the functionality for plug in mapping has always been on Live. The only thing new is the ability to save the mapping as default and it is in Live, not exclusive to Push.
