Just got my push 2 and oh man....what a piece of tech. I've run into a bit of a snag however, maybe someone has an answer for me. When I would perform with push 1 using session view, I would generally control my master fx performance chain with the display, buttons below the display, and encoders. With push 1, I would be automating fx paramters with knobs and using the buttons below the display to turn fx on/off, especially with beat repeat type stuff (sort of in sp404 fashion). It seems that this isn't possible on Push 2, specifically having control of the on/off of each effect with buttons. Instead of one of the rows of buttons controlling the on/off of each effect, it now controls selection of track (which is a step forward in a different direction, I acknowledge that). Note that I do know you can map the on/off to an instrument rack' macros along with other desirable parameters, but there was something so flowy about having buttons for on/off and not knobs.

To turn off a device you have to hold Mute and press the device button, which is a pain the ass when performing, yes.

Ah, I see. Well im glad that the capability is still there, but it's definitely a bummer that one more hand is required for the process

have any of the devs mentioned anything about this because as someone contemplating a push 2 this would bum me out considerably ?

I concur, this is a definite step backwards.

You should be able to reassign those buttons below the screen to solo/mute/device on-off/etc.

I hear there are some shift functions in the works for a 9.5.1 upgrade hopefully that's one where we could hold shif and mute or shift and solo to toggle those on so you don't need 2 hands

not needing two hands is the whole point, I hope they don't consider a solution without considering that .

They could make it behave the same as Push 1(perhaps a preference either in Push's User mode, or a toggle somewhere):

- Pressing mute once will toggle mute mode on. You don't have to keep holding mute. From there you simply press whatever you wanna mute, whether it be a drumpad, device or track. One-handed operations. Pressing mute again will toggle two-hand mode. Or something.

Same for solo mode.

what I'd really like is a mute page like on the mpc so that you can play the mutes and run through a basic arrangement like that

The feature I miss the most since I switched from MPC to Push/Live: Muting tracks NOT immediately.

I mean, when pressing Mute in Live, the track's sound is muted instantly.
When pressing mute on the mpc, the tracks last midi note is played till the end.

This is extremely useful when muting because you will never cut of that fat snare directly in the middle, since each sample always plays till the end.
Since I am using Push/Live I lost the ability to do clean on point beat cuts without post production.
So what I am looking for is basically a "mute all following midi events".
Can anyone follow me?

The MPC mutes MIDI data while Push's mute is the audio track on / off. I hear you though, for performing the MIDI way of doing it definitely has some benefits.

I think ableton can relate to how important this would be, they are the masters of quantized triggering. Have you asked them directly about it and if so what did they say?

Okay I think I came one step further to achieve this: By selecting all midi notes of a clip (cmd + a) and then toggling the notes on and of by pressing "0" (on mac). This is exactly the behaviour I wanted!!! Anybody has an idea if this could be mapped to the push in some way?

Thanks to Asymmetricalmusics post in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=193325, I found a pretty easy solution that just requires a little bit of setup beforehand:

The only unpleasing thing about this is that you either do not see the correct pad view (when recording on the sending midi track) or you always need to copy the midi material (when recording on the instrument track with the correct pad view).
The important thing to note: A MIDI track that does NOT have an instrument selected will always do a midi mute, while tracks with instruments always do an audio mute.
Realizing this, I think it would be pretty easy to implement a setting for tracks to force using midi muting, for example in the right click context menu. I would love to see that feature..
