Hey guys
I am looking to get new studio headphones but don't want to spend more than $100. I don't DJ, I compose/produce. Suggestions?

I can +1 this. MDR7506 are pretty much industry standard for studio monitor headphones, which is precisely what you're asking for. They also happen to be just under $100. I wouldn't look much further.

Oh this is an original topic, nobody has ever asked that question before.
Beats by Dre are very popular, they must be great. Go for them.

You should also think what colour you want your headphones to be.
If they are red they tend to add a sort of fanciful nature to the sound. Green is more lovable. Yellow and orange are similar, and give a kind of wistful feel to the music.
Blue i'd steer clear of, too gruesome.
White can be useful depending on what youre making, can add a very friendly vibe to guitars and tuba.
Black tends towards the misty side of sound.

100 bucks. that's DJ headphones prices, not compose/produce headphones prices. good luck with that.
if you save up a little more money, i would recommend Audio Technica M50 or Beyer Dynamic DT 770.

Own AKG K702, love them (using 2 hr/day for 2yrs now) and have the stock cable change to Black Dragon but I also find some vocalist on Youtube using the Sony (not sure if the same model) DT770 received a lot of good review too.
