Live+multiple hardware effects+RME UCX+Patchbays and mixers?

Hi all,
I have been trawling the forums looking for answers... most of the advice is quite old now and possibly a bit out dated.
The question i have is; if i wanted to use say 5-6 hardware effects allocated to sends in Live... I'd need to use a super low latency audio interface like the RME UCX..?
I have been watching a tutorial by Martin Eyerer on Loopmasters; he is using summing busses/external mixers/external hardware effects...
Still a little confused about patch bays, interfaces, mixers etc...
I was a DJ for 20 years before getting into production 16 months ago... so i'd love to have external control of my channels...i Have the PUSH MK1 and APC40 MKII... they are working well for me but i am restricted but he lack of access to the sends... The Livid controller DS1 looks like a good option but i don't want to clutter up my desk even more...
Essentially i would like a set up that blends In the Box with out the box... getting as hands on as possible with all the benefits of in the box options...
Any advice?
