Haven't quite processed this yet, his 70's work has been on my playlist throughout my life.
My late stepfather was a huge fan, it was a musician we both agreed on.
I just watched a documentary on him the other day...

I am in shock, RIP. I was such a big fan of his 70's era also.

I've always been a fan, he was a unique guy.
I think I'm going to watch Cracked Actor again. I've seen it a LOT of times. David as he approaches the peak of his coke and occultism phase. The thin white duke drifting around the US in a Cadillac, surviving on milk and cigarettes. The whole time getting thinner and weirder. Stopping in hotels to write lyrics with Burroughs/Gysin's cut-up technique.
It begins with him watching himself on TV. Perfect.

Was just checking out his new album this past Friday. Admittedly I’ve never been much of a fan but I appreciate his uniqueness. It also got me to thinking about highly successful artists from the past that probably wouldn’t get noticed if they started their career today. We credit the old music industry for holding back great talent with their stranglehold on what got widely released and promoted, but then they also gave us Bowie.

I know, right? Then again; if at least some of them actually get an appreciation for truly great music out of it, it can't be all that bad? The only thing more pathetic than hipsters who want street or social media cred for digging "old" music are condescending geezers who are over-protective of their sublime taste in music.
Out of necessity, I discovered Bowie relatively late in his career ('90s), but I've held The Rise and Fall ... as probably the best pop album in history since I was in my teens. Oddly enough, I've never really gotten into Bowie's later works, and I find myself returning to his '70s albums all the time.
It was a slap in the face reading the news this morning, but the man has made an impact on popular culture that I think we'll never be able to truly comprehend or gauge.

From his new album. A truly odd and unique piece of art. Really love the eclectic mash of musical influences in this piece. Parts of this track are very classic 70's Bowie.
His voice is beautiful and haunting.

Major Tom's skeletal remains.... a beautiful way to say goodbye.

UK comedian Jimmy Carr played in Auckland last night, he found out about Bowie's death during the interval and announced it to the crowd. He added "Looking on the plus side we're all a little cooler now as the coolest man on Earth just died."
Heroes played over the PA as the crowd left the theatre.
