MOTU 828 and POWERBOOK users please respond

Hi,

I'm using a Powerbook 15" 1,67MHz with 1gb of RAM. OS 10.4.1 and Live 4.1.4.
Also my Motu 828 mkII is using the latest driver. I'm using a Lacie D2 HD daisy chained after the MOTU. I'm using the fw400 port of the Powerbook.

All is working PERFECT except every 30 to 60 minutes or so I get a short audio glitch making live skip a few beats...sometimes it even skips 20 seconds.

The problem is that i'm using Live on-stage together with a live-band. It are fixed arrangentments. So when the arrangement skips we have a problem. We usually solve this by improvising but it really gives me (and the band) a headache.

I contacted both Ableton and Motu but nobody seems to be able to help me.

Are there any other users using this same setup experiencing problems and perhaps found a solution?

Cheers,

Maxim.

If you play you're project from internal drive. Still the same??. Try it with JUST the motu.
If it works fine. Buy an pcmcia FW card. Some firewire interface will eat up all your FW bandwith.

Maybe using larger buffer settings will help? Increases latency, so only recommended if you don't monitor instruments through audio inputs.

Other than than, I don't have the problem with my Motu 828 Mk1. Sometimes glitches occur in Quicktime though.

sorry to tell you this, but the problem can not be fixed.
If you dig into this forum, you'll know what I mean.
Ableton admitted that there is a problem with PBG4 and FW.
There seems to be a lack in FW or Audio on the ALbook.

i really wished they told me this before the purchase.

I went to RME Multiface, PCI-Bus.
Someone advised me to do so.
You are playing with a band and you'll need very low latencies.
Trust me, you won't regret this purchase.
Sell the motu and go with the RME.

Either see my thread below, or search the forum with "RME" "Multiface"

Motu looks great. i know exactly how you feel.
Many people do so. too.

I don't know with the people without the problem,
but since you are in a band, I guess that made you play as long as a straigh hour which gave you
the chance to encounter to the problem.
I can't tell how long other has tested.
it happens around 30-60mins.

Even the dealer whom I bought the gear had the same problem with live4.
Strange thing is that this only happens with Live4.
It seems to be ok with the other apps.

I sent several emaisl to Ableton.
They were trying to help but Iguess no one really knows.
I haven't recieved anything from them since then.

dig the forum.
you'll know.

good luck.
You'll need it.

You'll be amazed how the RME works.
I would leave the FW for external hard disks.

cheers

hi,
-first check your external hdd with drive 10 if you have some bad clusters, files or error..... correct it !.
or.
-2: I have sale my firewire sound card for a rme multiface, for have free the firewire slots for use for data only (hdd firewire 800). Sometimes I have experienced some drop with huge data transfert, and audio signal access on the firewire bus (400). is the reason why I have buy one cardbus/pci soundcard.......like rme :-)
