PLEASE HELP WITH MY FIRST RECORDING!

OK, so first let me say I haven't got any idea what I'm doing! This is the first time I've attempted any recording, but what I'm trying to achieve should be simple (I think!).

So I'm using Live Lite 9.2.2 with a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and what I want to do is record vocals over an MP3 backing track.

So far I've dropped the MP3 file into an audio track in the arrangement view, but can't get the tempo right - stuck on the default 120bpm and tripping every couple of beats. I read somewhere that you can get Ableton to pick up the tempo from the MP3 track, but I've only managed to do this once (but I don't know how!).

Can anyone help? But please guys, remember you're trying to help a complete idiot so the simpler the explanation the better!!

Thanks all.

Double click your mp3 file
Look at clip view on the bottom pane
Toggle warp mode off

Thanks stromkraft and inkjt510 for your replies - tried both ideas and they both worked.

The problem I have now is a little more serious as the mic won't record! The mic is connected to the Scarlett correctly and I can hear the mic through headphones connected to the Scarlett. In the mixer section of Ableton I can see the small box next to the input number registering green when I speak, but nothing appears in the meter on the right side of the panel. When I click the record button to arm the mixer I get an error message to say Temp-1 Project can't be created. If I click ok and then click anywhere outside the mixer section the record button turns red - but still nothing records and nothing appears in the meter.

I've upgraded from 9.2.2 to 9.6 but the results are the same. I've got a crash report - cause that's something that happens quite frequently too - and I'm going to send this with an accompanying email to tech support, but as I'm using the Lite version I may not get a reply.

I really don't know which way to turn as I don't know whether the program is at fault or the PC (Win 7 64-bit with 3Gb RAM).
