Back in the 1800's watching people walk was considered a great spectator sport whether it was long distances between cities or on a track for days on end.

Sometimes a marching band would join the walker. There, I added a music component to the topic. :x

Nothing like watching bi-peds ambling along to set the musical juices flowing.

One of the most famous pedestrians of the day was Captain Robert Barclay Allardice, called "The Celebrated Pedestrian", of Stonehaven.[3] His most impressive feat was to walk 1 mile every hour for 1000 hours, which he achieved between June 1 and July 12 1809
Quick calculator check indicates that this man walked approximately 42 days without a full-night's sleep.

FUN FACT: Humans are the species of the animal kingdom being able to travel the longest distance without resting. This lead to a hunting technique in ancient times consisting of simply stalking and following the tracks of potential prey until it just couldn’t go on any longer. Yeah, we were literally the terminators of prehistoric times and probably scared the shit of animals with our unrelenting, inevitable hunting technique.

That more or less means that Pedestrianism is the ultimate athletic discipline for us humans!
