You could partition your MBP drive to maintain 2 OSes on the same machine, or use a bootable external drive.

I use both of these options:
My MBP has 2 partitions.
I have a small external for the latest OS to check them it a bit before updating the MBP.

Reaktor 6 doesn't work on ML

One could easily deduce Native Instruments are in a pact to kick our butts to upgrade OS X. Considering Reaktor 6 is close to a brand new version and Mountain Lion is the last, last, last major OS X version that isn't particlarly strange.

And behind all of this is Apple's well-/Ill-advised decision to not let their APIs be backwards compatible to the extent that developers feel safe developing also for older OS X versions. It seems the best they can do is to keep supporting older versions for older systems for some time.
