Late 2008 MBP - update or not?

I'm running Live 9 atm, on my late 2008 MBP
Specs are
OSX 10.9.
4GB RAM
2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo CPU
Nvidia Graphics (Not really relevant so idc)

Seeing how I am able to upgrade to 10.10.x or even 10.11., I was wondering if somebody has updated their late 2008 MBP and if so, how does Live 9 perform in it?

Thank you!

what kind of hard disk are you using? if you are still on hdd i recommend updating to ssd and storing ableton+its samples, packs, instruments etc on it. this will give you the most bang for your buck imo

I did a clean install on my 2009 MBP and I find 10.11 to be equally well or better than 10.9. I stayed away from 10.10 as I think it sucks.

I have a 1tb SSD and that made a huge difference. I just picked up a second hand 2011 MBP for about 450€. I'll get about 200€ for my 2009 MBP, so that's 250€ for getting more than twice as fast machine. Eat porridge for a month or whatever and most people can do it.

I am still on the HDD, but I have an SSD in my PC, 120 gigs, which I think would be enough to run smoothly, wouldn't it?

Right now I can't get a new MBP man, but I could maybe upgrade this one with the SSD and RAM. Then sell when I get more money for a 2012 or so. I was only interested if getting 10.10 or 10.11. was still good to run Live 9 on this specific machine.

Upgrade the RAM and get an SSD. Stick to Mavericks, or try El Cap. Don't install Yosemite, it kinda sucked.

I run 8gb and an SSD on a 2010 MBP with an i5 and it suits my needs. The Core series CPUs are considerably slower than the i series, but you will still see a significant performance increase when you upgrade the RAM and SSD.
