Note modeplay 1 channel & adjust param on another - How?

I am slowly making all the little adjustments to my set-up and workflow for my live set-up now that I have Push2 (and generally love the new interface). One thing I have found that is a bit tricky, is I seem to have lost the ability to be playing on one channel, and adjust the parameters (effects devices on another) when in Note mode.
I have channels 6,7,8 set-up as midi channels for live playing of sounds, either via midi keyboard or in note mode on Push2. While using the midi keyboard, I stay in session mode and can then have a channel armed and play live keys, or record into clips. At the same time I can be tweaking effect parameters on any of my 1-8 tracks, by either pressing the channel select button for any other channel (button below the display), or via mapped button on my Nocturn (mapped to select the Audio effect rack on each track).
However, when in note mode this is no longer possible. Now I cannot adjust parameters on another channel while playing a different one. When selecting the other channel, the input focus (and arming) switches to the other channel.
Any ideas if there is a workaround for this? It would be really usedful to be note mode, be live-jamming a riff on a synth, but then also be able to be tweaking the effect parameters on another channel (or the master)
