Hi everyone,

I've seen people looking for this feature as far back as 7 years ago and am surprised this hasn't been implemented because it's so necessary to live musicians: auto punch out of clip recording in session view.

As a guitar player and piano player, I want (need) to be able to set a GQ value, press a controller button to start recording in a clip slot, and then be able to play my loop content - and then have ableton automatically stop recording after say, 2 bars (or 1 or 4 or whatever the GQ is) - because I don't have a third hand to punch out with!

Ableton, I don't mean to be rude, but I'm RINGING THE BELL on this. This is a piece of functionality that people have been looking for for the better part of a decade. You're really close with your looper. Just make those parameters available for clip slot recording. It's so obvious (and powerful).

i think they hoped that Looper would be the answer to this sort of thing.

i do all my punch ins/outs in Arrange view.

Well, the looper certainly is on the right track. They just need to take it one step further and build those same parameters into the clip slots. I know that they'd have to map out the functionality and that there is most likely some complexity that I'm not seeing yet, but here's an idea of what it would look like:

Thanks bhud45. I've gone ahead and created a mockup that shows all the functionality I'm suggesting and how it works together to give musicians the ability to dynamically build loop scenes on stage without having to stare at a computer screen (buzz kill for the audience and whole performance process):

It's just impossible to stay connected to the audience and build this stuff at the same time. Auto punch out of clip slot recording would fix that...

Thanks Valiumdupeuple!!! This is so awesome.

So far, using that device, I'm able to get the looping process down to two button presses: select track, start recording. That's great and I can work with that. And I'm going to see if I can possible combine those and get it down to a single button press.
