Okay, where do I start...?

I need to make, or want (if it's already there) a device that sends the last pressed note, back to itself (like it's recording it) without breaking the trigger to the actual instrument.
I tried it with clips(midi learn), sending the same note info back, but it breaks the original input used, so there's no trigger to the vst.
Hope this helps, and someone can show me the right direction.
