Ableton Forum

I work in post-production and use tons of different programs for video, print, animation, installation playback, and sound. Ableton is by far my favorite audio app but there are some features that would really speed up the experience. I mostly use Ableton for mix purposes so I mostly use the arrangement view.

Forgive me if these functionalities exist and I know some are long-term repeats. It would be great to see what Ableton considers priorities or is in their plans in the future...

Groups / Nesting


Grouping in timeline / arrangement view
Functionality:

• Ability to have multiple layers of control, so by default they function as a group, but you can double click to "unlock" them - subgroups would be infinitely possible so you can really organize your timeline (similar to multitrack)
  Group clips from different tracks so you can move different sections around (similar to groups in Illustrator)
  Keep group sections intact with shared trim capabilities (similar to groups in Premiere)
  Adds a "Group" category in the browser panel
  Complete with a side-panel showing a sub-list showing what's in your group

Nesting clips in timeline / arrangement view
Functionality:

• Ability to nest clips into sub-arrangements, so you can group clips into a sub-timeline.
  Similarly to groups, trim controls in the master timeline adjust the I/O of the the nest.
  I/O in the nest stays intact within the nest, trim just adjusts the I/O in whatever timeline
  Adds a "(Nest)" category in the browser panel

Navigation / Workspace

Horizontal Scrolling!
Functionality:

• Option to hot-key horizontally scroll with a mouse that doesn't have horizontal scrolling.

Zooming In / Out
Functionality:

• Option to hot-key zoom on mouse scroll. This has been a long-term request and we'd LOVE to see it!

Panel Adjustment and Saving Ableton Workspaces
Functionality:

• Ability to move panels around. Different process points use different tools and screen real estate is always hard to find.
  Ability to save workspaces other than default
  Hotkey customization for different workspaces
  Half way there with the second window business - but wouldn't it be great if that was you could make that your browser window or your detail view?

Tools

Manual Bezier Curves
Functionality:

• Option to manually control curves on both sides of a spline
  Ability to choose keyframes velocities
  Ability to choose from defaults (easy ease / easy in / easy out etc)
