can anyone explain why there has always been guaranteed audio dropouts whenever any track is created/deleted? for a program that is named after and designed for live performance i feel like they've made a number of things actually impossible to do live.

Too weak CPU, bad drivers.
And Yep.

i've always used a pimped out macbook pro. blaming CPU or drivers is a pretty lazy response.
after more experimentation it turns out that my project was too complex. but that's an annoying limitation too.

What you think and what you have are two different things. I'm not lazy. I'm experienced. If your machine is powerful enough asking too much from it — as in too complex sets — and using an inferior audio interface with old drivers are indeed the more common reasons that keep coming back in these forums.
I'm not your research assistant, so if you're not happy with me giving you what's on the top of my head
when you're not even supplying basic info leaving the field open for speculation, that's entirely on you. Consider yourself ignored from now on.

I am also a click victim, but I know why it is.
Do you have a record armed track, or monitor On track with the option: "reduced latency when monitoring"?
This is known to cause clicks (on ALL systems) because the path latencies are re-analysed so that the play through can remain the quickest.
If so, and you hate the clicks then turn off that option.

ableton wrote:When "Reduced Latency when Monitoring" is active, clicks can take place when enabling Input Monitoring or record enabling tracks due to sudden changes in the track's delay compensation. This is particularly obvious with Push, because of the fact that the device auto-arms selected tracks.
