Making sample to fit midi

Newbie here, so bear with me.
I usually record in Session View and use a couple of instruments for recording into Ableton.
Now, often the sample does not match with the midi.
Example: I record a guitar and the sample ends up from bar 1 (1.1.1) to bar 5 (5.0.0.).
I wanna match the sample with my preferred midilength, so the sample plays from bar 1 to bar 4 bar with the same bpm as originally recorded.
Been looking on a few tutorials of Sampler and Simpler, but that did't provide a solution.
Would be grateful for a link to a tutorial or any other help. Thanks.

It sounds like it's a problem with your warping.. this is a great vid that I've found that goes a bit more in depth on how to warp a sample properly especially when the tempo doesn't line up. You'll have to warp the sample to make it the same midilength that you want. I'd advise you to warp it before you put it into your effects (simpler/sampler)

This sounds to me you made an audio recording into an audio clip in
Live. You did this this with tempo set to x in Live. When you play back at tempo x the playback doesn't meet your expectation somehow. Correct? I don't understand how you mean exactly yet, so a few questions:
Is it so that what you hear playing back doesn't seem to match the recorded audio when playing back? Or what does the above mean?
Where's the MIDI?
Did you record by sending out MIDI on one track to your external instrument and recording the output of this to an audio track?
Did you play yourself by hand without recording to MIDI first?
Where did you monitor the sound from your instrument? In an external mixer or audio interface mixer or in the live
Live mixer?

Perhaps the forum didn't allow your link to be posted. Would be grateful if you could repost the link in a PM. Thanks.

I seem to screw up my explanation.
I record a guitar into a audio clip. This gives me a sample with a length of from position 1.1.1 to 5.2.1 (or any "uneven" number). Since most of my projects are based on specific bars (2, 4, etc), i wanna adapt the sample to those bars (2, 4, etc) but with the sound of the sample intact.

Warping is a good way to find the tempo of your clip.
Remove all Warp markers except the first one. Take the first one and make sure it is on 1.1.1 and make sure 1.1.1 is where the beginning of the clip is supposed to be. It's probably like that by default.
Make sure there are noooo other Warp markers (there can be transient markers. Just not Warp markers).
Find the 5.1.1 part of the grid and drag the sample so tha the end lines up with the 5.1.1 part. This should be 4 bars.
Now that you've eyed it up, if your clip is a perfect 4 bar loop then it should reveal the tempo in clip properties.
Of your clip is not a perfect length, you might have a lot more guess work ahead of you.
Keep in mind that while you do this, the clip might sound messed up. Once you've found the tempo of your clip you can change Ableton Live's tempo to the same amount so that it'll play at its original speed and other clips will match tempo.

So you're not using
Live's tempo but your own? The only reason you didn't end at 5.1.1 is that the tempo in
Live doesn't match the tempo of your recording?

@mind_the_bap, Drag here means holding down the mouse on the last transient of the clip. I suggest to use the transient at the point where a new bar would start if you looped your recording. This way any part after, like a non full-bar finish, will not affect correct tempo and will just move to after the end point.
When you play back this clip, unwarped is my suggestion, to make sure you're about right, you can turn on the metronome. You can also eyeball the new bar points to see if your playing fits about where you expect (your tempo could vary somewhat of course).
Great tip, yur2die4.

Got it. Thanks for the replies, yur2die4 & Stromkraft
