sample bpm

I've recorded an audio track using a microphone in arrangement view of an old vinyl record. Then, I chopped and edited it.
Problem is, Now I want to sync my DAW's tempo to the BPM of the sample. Every time I try to modify the tempo box it slows or speeds up the sample.
Someone recommended that i export the sample to a music player on my computer.(Itunes) Then open a new ableton project to then tap tempo till they sync. Once the desired tempo is met i would drop the sample in and go from there.
Theres got to be an easier way, right?
