Start recording when signal is received

Hey guys,
I'm trying to arm a track to record as soon as I start playing, with no count in. I'm aware of a 'dummy clip' idea, and I know that the Looper can somewhat achieve this. But I have a riff with note repeat on in a set tempo. I'd rather create a clip slot instead of a loop in Looper.
I found this M4L device called AutoRec2 that was written to do exactly what I'm attempting, but it's not functioning properly in Live 9.
Any ideas? Thanks.
