UC-33e: use faders for note input ? sliders for note input?
Hello, Crew.
I'm wondering...
Is it possible to use the faders on the UC-33e (or any other usb controller that has faders) for note input, like a step sequencer?
I'd love to be able to select a step, use a single fader to select a note.
If Ableton doesn't allow this, does any one know of a plug in?
Thank you,
Jason D.

screw bidule. If all you want is a quick and dirty monophonic step sequencer then you can do it yourself in Live - both v.4 and 5. Here's how, it's really quick.
*Set up 16 midi tracks.
*Route them all to another midi track - number 17.
*Make an empty one-bar loop in each of the top clip slots of the 16 tracks.
*In track one, do a 16th note on the first 16th. In the second track drop a 16th note on the second 16th and so on.
*play the scene. You should now see the lights running down through the 16 tracks.
*Now start dropping in lives pitch fx, one on each of the 16.
*Assign these to faders and or knobs.
*assign the on/off buttons of these tracks to either qwerty keys or midi controllers.
*if you want to, you can also drop a velocity plugin on each step. This will let you control the filter in simpler for instance.
*And of course drop a scale plugin on the "master" midi track.
EDIT: You can find the als file for this neat trick in this thread:

Alright: I'll describe my use of it before doing another upload:
I use it together with a behringer bcr2000 - it has 32 rotary encoders and 16 buttons with some kind of status indicator. I use the top two encoder rows to set the pitch of each step (by tweaking the pitch plugin on each of the tracks) and the bottom two rows I use to change the velocity of these tracks (by tweaking a vel. plugin on each track) The buttons toggle mute for each of these tracks. So I can basically have a clear view of Note on/off, pitch and velocity of 16 tracks/steps with just one preset on the bcr.
I route all the midi to a synth (most often through a scale plugin) and then I tweak until I like the pattern. I can then capture this pattern with yet another midi track, and save a series of tweaks as clips for later use. I'll add a bunch of clips to this upload as well, so you can get a feel for the types of sound that come from this. Also a couple of the covert operator clips in SoundWrecks are made like this.

coool...sounds interesting, I was doing it with a UC-33 - I just found changing the pitch wasnt exactly an exact science - quite hard to change one semitone - but I'll try the velocity and recording to another midi clip - I didnt think of that so I suppose that makes sense for a good hands on way of writing a clipMachinate wrote:Alright: I'll describe my use of it before doing another upload:

very very clever thinking!
