beware, this doesn't use a mobil chip, its a desktop chip stuffed into a laptop.. this could cause heat issues and the battery life would be terrible.
just an FYI.
I think you're right

I think you should be fine with Compaq laptops with fast processors, or Sonys, or Toshiba---- these are really the better-known companies.
I suspect that you'll fare well with just about any PC laptop if you use it for Ableton. Their app is abolutely great on PCs, I tried Live on an old 1.1 Ghz Compaq laptop with great results.
I recommend visiting PC stores with a demo copy of live and trying a few... the sales staff around here is usually pretty open to that ......

Hi,
contrary to some other posts I would personally never recommend toshiba laptops. I had a satellite about 3years ago and had nothing but problems with it. Granted it could have been a lemon but unfortunately it was my lemon. It had substandard parts (fan, cd-rom and thermstat) that broke jsut after my warranty went phhhht! and when I sent it to be repaired, Toshiba lost the damn thing! Then they found it (after a month and a half without my pc) sent it back and it came back with the original problem fixed but with a new set of problems that were not there before. Just my own personal experience, hope it helps you make a decision.

I have been thrilled with my Fujitsu Lifebook S6110.
It's a small 13.2" screen, but the laptop is as small as other 12/2" I've seen... it has a CD-R/DVD Drive built in (no need for a bay) and it is swappable for a second battery... with the second battery I've been getting 6-7 hours run time with Live.
It's expandable to 1Gig of RAM and it has Firewire and 2 USB 2.0 ports... and it's worked like a charm for me...
I very much reccomend it.

Hey Michael,
I was considering this same Fujitsu laptop.
How has it been working for you?
