Using APC40 mkII foot switch for recording

Hi,
I have a question/problem about using the foot switch. In the session view when I already have a clip and use the foot switch for recording, it is always re-record the existing clip no matter what I do how I select the next empty one. The only way to record really the next is to push it twice and then it goes to the next one BUT! When I do so it stops immediately the previous clip so the music or the part of it is stops immediately, which is also weird. Do I use it wrong or missing something or anyone could tell how could I 1, double push and not stopping the existing playing clip and or 2, select manually any place and start recording THERE with the foot switch. Thank you!
