Live 10 midi-overdub causing crashes. (capture related?)

Just upgraded to live 10, love it so far...
>But, getting huge crashes when for example running a midiclip in arrangement and playing over it with midi overdub = crash
Thought first it could be a random thing, so went over in session and opened a midi track, and feed it from another midi track, seeing it record but graphicupdates(live) slow down.....crash.....
> Reset live's pref.cfg etc. but still same issue. Comming from a long way since live 4 towards 9 and never ran into this.
Seems like some miditrafficbuffer>gui thing.
Anyone else with this problem?

Updated graphics driver...no luck.
After a while with crashing trough midi recording and hangs the following problem occured,10 keeps on scanning vst folder after a windows 10 restart.
Back to live 9 32 bit.

Well no one else seems to have reported this so it can't be a common thing
What are your computer specs? Audio interface? etc?
What is a "Huge Crash" as opposed to just a crash? Are you sending any crashlogs off to Ableton?

Yes reported, even the c drive got clugged by error reports lmao.
Huge crash meaning ableton hangs and win error to shut it down.
The problem occurs randomly.
Example again (i try to be specific possible) Record a midi track while overdub and looping on (just to check), the clip updates the recorded midi(graphicaly) seeying it slowing down the graphics which result in ableton hanging.
Testing 10 with a project with no vsts only stock plugs for the time beeing.
Can't seem to think it's a system related error since ableton 9 always ran flawless.
Installed 10 next to 9, which shared the pref.cfg etc library settings i guess of 9. Could this be the culprit?

Ok, so just a crash
Record a midi track while overdub and looping on (just to check), the clip updates the recorded midi(graphicaly) seeying it slowing down the graphics which result in ableton hanging.
I'm a windows user and have been using the Beta for 2 months and never had any issues recording or overdubbing anything. Just checked again and it runs as expected.
Can't seem to think it's a system related error since ableton 9 always ran flawless.
Wrong way to think. For a start you are going back to Live 32bit from Live 10 which is now only 64bit. Have you ensured you Have you made sure you updated all your VSTs? I know they are not in your test there but as a form of being complete make sure everything is up to date.
Again, wha6t are your specs?
- CPU?
- OS version (it is 64bit yes)?
- Ram?
- HDD type?
- Graphic Interface?
- Audio interface?

Well you seem to have all the right components there.
Very strange. Have you tried scrapping the live preferences and setting it up again?
What is your freq/bitrate in Live?
Does it only crash when you do overdub or sometimes when you do playback of a track?
Could be a plugin you are using in your master section or sends that has an issue. I have had unexpected crashes out of the blue after an update with Eventide plugins, an update fixed that, but just to be sure you need to rule all that out, open a clean Live set without any 3rd party anything and try and see if you can find the exact steps to make it happen otherwise no one will be able to test it the same way.

First ty for your effort.
Freq is 44.1 @ 24 bit
Already reset live by deleting the.cfg's, but no result.
This problem with midi-overdub occurs totaly random, overdubbing midi or even feeding midi from another track causes this hickup (you see midinotes beeing added in clip, then the more bars it progresses you see the whole gui of ableton slowing down and the error occurs. it's like it can't cope with the midi data. (only notes)
Plugins are updated btw.
Hopefully these are some first release bugs.

Are you sure your'e not encountering a MIDI loop? That would crash Live in most instances. While not extremely likely worth to check the I/O settings of the involved tracks. What happens if you just overdub from your controller?

Straight after the install of 10 it appeared random and frequent, but now it's getting less frequent. After some reboots of win10 and deleting pref cfg. Odd..
Something else, bit offtopic but still related to the first experience with live 10.
Long time waiting with scanning vst's every time i boot 10, again this is the first time after many years a new version is causing this, so am a bit surprised .

Hi lalakulo, wondering if you found a solution to this? I have tried a lot of things but now I'm also almost convinced these random crashes with audio stuttering are due to midi or display problems. Weird thing is, 2 of my older projects run just fine but this one project is constantly crashing during playback or midi recording.

Updated the graphics here and audio drivers, this problem is related to 10, but what exactly causes this i really dont know, as i stated before it's gettign less frequent(but knowing there is a bug that has a life of its own makes me kinda distrust this version). Ive send the abes some bug reports as i stated before, hopefully they pinpoint out the problem.
Is your project constantly crashing on the same handling ? or also random? Did you try to delete the pref?

Thanks for the answer! I did delete the prefs and that solved another problem I had (startup crashes). My project is crashing randomly as well, but since it has happened so many times I have noticed a pattern suggesting it must be either graphics, cpu or midi related. I have a time critical project right now, so sadly I had to revert to 9, but I'm daily working with Ableton to resolve this issue, it's quite unusable for me right now and like you mentioned distrusting the SW really takes its toll on the creative process.
Strangle thing is, it started a couple of days ago and the same day as the Windows updates (I'm running Win 10) so I'm inclined to think it may be related.

Same here win 10, connected to the net. (Also a thing is using win defender since live uses a different handling as live 9 during startup process?(As seeying defender gives different warnings regarding folderacces)
Did you try to run live as administrator?

Yes, it's even set to start as admin automatically. What is it about Win Defender? Do you suggest turning it off?
