When editing a lot of MIDI, being able to click somewhere in the piano roll (to set the edit cursor location) and select everything from that point onwards (like Ctrl+A, but not selecting everything, just everything after that point) would be very welcome.

Yes, that and many many more, like:
Select only bottom notes
Select only top notes
Select only notes in measure where edit cursor is
Select only notes under mouse cursor
Create minor chord
Create major chord
Fill midi item with notes at selected pitch lane, grid based
Paste selected notes at playhead
Delete note pointed by mouse
(Random) Arpeggiate selected notes grid based
Trim selected notes to edit cursor
Trim selected notes to mouse position
Do i have to go on ?
I had hoped that in L10 the arsenal of note related midi functions would have been greatly extended but nada.
L10 still has the most lacking MIDI editor of all other big DAWs like Cubase, Logic , FL Studio and Reaper.
It’s a joke imho, not of this time.

I couldn’t agree more Live is missing too many midi editing features!

Hey, just bought Ableton during the sale and I'm wondering the same thing.
Can you select all midi to the right of the playhead?
Been a year since this post was made. Seems like a rather intuitive way to edit midi because you can adjust midi clips from start to end. Any word on whether they are going to add this functionality? I hate having to select portions manually.

Short answer, no, not in the way you are talking about. But study its tricks before passing judgement. Same deal with Live overall.
