Rename Controllers?

Hi Guys
For my wife I just create a huge project with all theitr synths and mashines.
So: There is a lot of midi setup.
Is it possible to rename the controllers?
For example to name ch7 Ctr 64 to "Percussion ON OFF"
That would be very helpful not to lose the overview....
Best Steve

You mean in the list of controllers, or do you mean in a clip?
You can rename a clip with controller data by selecting it and press CTRL r or CMD r.
I don't think you can rename the list of controllers itself though.......

This is a clip with controllerfunction. Maybe I don't understand it well, but thought this is what you mean......

Dear miyaru and S4racen
For example the Controllers 12 to 20 on midi out channel 1 are my drawbars on the upper manual of my Hammond organ clone. 21 to 29 for the lower manual and many others.
I use Ableton in session view live as a setlist and backing track server with a very variable structure. There are looping parts, added horn sections and all that. It's for improvised music.
I made a clip in a midi track what sends all that settings to my external organ at the beginning of each songs or if it changes in between.
So I wanted to make a standard clip with all the controllers, that I use, but named. Now they are named as 14-controller; 15-controller and so on. I would like to read: drawbar 3 UM; drawbar 4 LM instead.
In that clip I used more than 50 controllers.
It would be much more easy to make a setup for the song with that clip instead of using long lists with all the controllers and what they are used for...

Are you referring to MIDI CC (Continuous Control) selections?

No, it's not possible...
Have you tried using a drum rack and renaming the cell?
Cheers

Hi, A workaround could be to open a separate Midi channel in Ableton for each controller you need and feed the Midi information back to the Midi channel your "master" Midi channel sits in. You can rename the Midi channel that is using a particular controller to something meaningful. I have done this with my Waldorf MicroWave XT and it works fine. There are a number of limitations to do with processor speed (your computer, the target external synth if you are using one and so on) and also the controller assignments and implementation of your synths. Plus of course you will, or could, use a very large number of Ableton Midi channels but I don't know if there is a limit on that (I haven't hit it yet). Let me know if you have queries
