I hear music, but can’t see the waves...

I’ve just started using Live and I’m pretty new to digital recording stuff in general...
I have some files of live percussion music I recorded at a friends studio using Live 4. When I open them in Live on my Power Book, I get files that appear to be empty when I look at them in Arrangement View, but when I play them they’re fine. If I unfold each track all I see is a red line throughout the entire track and nothing like a wave form.
And even when “folded,” I would expect to see the solid colored horizontal bands that represent sound clips, like I see in the manual and tutorials, but nothing, it all looks blank.
The only way to see a wave form is to go to Session View and double-click on one of the clips in a track and its wave form appears in the Clip View at the bottom.
Does this make sense? Do I need to click something to make the waves appear?
The problem is that most of what I’m learning in the manual and tutorials about editing sound clips, applies to clips in Arrangement View and I can’t see anything to edit.
One thing that might be relevant is that when I open some of the files, I get messages about missing stuff like, “Failed to load Audio Unit ‘TrackS S’ or it can’t find some sound files. I don’t know if it’s just stuff that’s on my friends computer and unrelated to this issue or what.
Any enlightenment would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris
