Why cant I insert WAV files into ableton?

Not enough information from your post to know why you can't do it. Ableton Live has no problems whatsoever with WAV files normally.
1) Are you sure you are actually importing a WAV file?
2) What are you importing it into in Live?

What is the sample rate/ bit depth of the file?
Some lower Sample rate waves might not play on modern systems.
Does it open in an audio editor like Audacity?

If these are
64bit RF64 Wav files, this is an extension of Wav and not the standard Wav format.
Live doesn't support this extension to the Wav fornat. The
file extension would still be ".wav" though so you'd have to investigate the file.
