Akai MPKmini mk2 Incorrect Drum Rack Notes

I have spent the past week trying to figure out what the problem and solution.

The pads on the MPKmini are playing the wrong notes in Ableton drum Rack. I see a few people have this problem but there doesn't seem to be any consistent solutions.

1. C4 pad triggers the C4 note on/off in midi ox. So the MPKmini is indeed sending the right notes.

2. Ableton does not play C4 instead playing E1. Actually the notes being played change randomly and sometimes both channel as (a/b) play the same notes despite being assigned to different octaves. I should say that the B rack scales with the drum rack selected but the A rack does not staying on the E1 octave.

Changing the values in Akai editor does not change this problem. Changing the Midi options in Ableton has no effect on the notes played. Midi Track, Remote, Synch have no effect on what notes are being played.

Does anybody have a solution to this? I think it's either a midi drum rack bug in Ableton 10 and the MPKmini or some such thing. If anybody has some troubleshooting tips to fix this that would be great.

I don't know if I'd classify this as a solution but re-installing the firmware resolved every issue I had with the Akai MPKmini mk2.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm having the same issue.

Hi,
I had the same problem and you can simply fix it by choosing the right midi input device in the Ableton live 10 preferences.

I hope it helps! :D

Hi guys,

I know exactly your struggle as I was searching for a reason for 2 days. I've discovered it by myself after all...

It seems, that MPK Editor is mapping the notes for 12 steps (1 octave) lower than Ableton gets, it's using a different standard. Therefore if you want to triger a scale C1-G1 on the pads in your Ableton, you need to map it to C2-G2 in the MPK Editor. That's all...

If someone wants, write me an e-mail to [email protected] and I can send you my adjusted AKAI default presets, which work in Ableton 10 for MacOS (BigSur).

Peace! McArty

Hi, your post sort of helps. I've noticed that by setting the ableton midi preference to the MPK mini mkII places my pads all over the place... They become nonlinear. If I switch it to the "MPK mini mkIII" setting or just "MPK mini" it will go back to a linear arrangement. They are still out of alignment by one row, but that's easier to fix than what's going on with the "MPK mini mkII" setting. For some reason the mkII setting will scatter my pads all over the drum rack. I haven't toyed with the knobs enough to see if setting it to "MPK mini" effects their usage yet. I've updated the firmware Y2-2 and am using Editor v 1.0.5

Also, I reinstalled the MPK editor and now all of the descriptors (i.e. channels, X-Axis, Y-axis, CC, Note, etc.) are appearing in a middle eastern script.

This is a dumb problem to have, and I have had it a few times.

I checked it out, and the MPK mini mk2 was sending the right MIDI notes, but something funny was happening— the 'scattered' drum notes OP and others have described. So I:
  • flashed the firmware (remember to save your presets!)
  • unplugged my webcam and other extraneous USB cables
  • cycled the power on my USB hub
  • restarted Ableton, and
  • deselected and reselected the control surface in Live preferences
I wish I could say which of these things did the trick, but finally things are working again.

Hi Folks,
I'm having the same issue with my og Novation ReMote SL and came here looking for a solution.

Anyway, I found a hack. Create a MIDI track with the Monitor set to input, and route that as the input to your Drum Rack tracks. I'm going to add this to my default template.

Hope this helps.
