Melodic Steps and Chords

Hi,
what would be similar device to the random creation of Creative Extensions>Melodic Steps using chords?
I like the idea of random music creation and its inspiration. Melodic steps seems to be ideal for single line only. Maybe there is a way to trigger chords also in a polyrhythmic manner.
