Record Quantize and sequencer sounding double notes

Hey All - When record quantize is turned on, and the track is set to Auto, playing in notes by hand while recording a clip is doing this weird thing where if I'm a little early relative to the grid, I'll hear the note I played, then almost instantly after I'll hear the note play again where the sequencer locked it to the grid. It's sort of a doubling/flamming sound. Obviously this doesn't happen if record quantize is turned off, or if I'm not recording. It happens with any midi controller including Push, and no, I don't have fx or routing that would contribute to this. I'm not looping the clip either, it's just free running.

But here's the thing I don't get: I've been using Live for years and never noticed this behavior. In the past it's always been like the sequencer is mute until it actually loops a clip. Has the quantized note sounding thing always been there, and I just strangely never noticed? Thanks!

Just a faint suspicion, not tested: Is the preview switch in your midi editor (headphone symbol left of the piano roll) on?

Preview sounds when you move notes, so may be it does too when the quantize moves them.

Nope, preview switch is not on. Thanks for taking a shot though. Anyone else? Is this expected behavior or no?

Bump. I'm really hoping someone could just confirm whether this is expected behavior or not. Thanks.

It seems to happen when midi note chasing is turned on (in conjunction with record quantize).
It's a known issue.

this one's been around since at least Live 9, maybe earlier. it happens regardless of the chase midi notes state.

example: set auto-quantize to quarter notes and play in a repeating pad/key on the off-beat...

metronome:
x - - - x - - - x - - - x - - -

you play a sound on the off-beat:
- - x - - - x - - - x - - - x -

what you hear from the sound:
- - x - x - x - x - x - x - x -

I am also experiencing the same issue. Initially I thought that my Launchkey Mini MK3 midi controller is the problem but apparently it isn't?

Hei... I had the same Issue. I don't use Push very frequently and I remembered not having that Issue the last time I used it. So I updated the firmware on Push and it worked... (I'm on Push 1 tho... don't know if that helps...)

https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/artic ... 20Push%201.

cheers

Hey guys, I managed to solve this by toggling off the “Chase Midi Notes” in the options menu!

Hi there, I'm using Live 11.0.11 and even after turning off Midi note chasing, the issue is still there.

At first, I taught it was coming from my midi controller, but the issue is reproducible even if I use my computer keyboard to trigger notes.

I can't believe this is a "bug", I mean it's breaking a key feature of the product: Quantized midi recording is not usable anymore because of that.

I've searched for hours around the web, asked for advice on some Discord forums, but nothing.
I don't understand why there isn't much more feedback about that issue ...

Maybe it's a "config" specific issue ...
Am using Live 11.0.11 build 2021_09_28_6a1c879bfb on a Mac 11.6 with M1 chip

Does anyone find out how to solve that issue?

Is that issue tracked somewhere by the live team? Do you have a link?

You can get around this issue by switching to 'In' instead of 'Auto' in the track's In/Auto/Off setting.
Not a great workaround, but it's the only one i'm aware of that works (as said before, this issue is nothing to do with Chase MIDI as it predates that feature).

Someone wrote that it is fixed in the beta 11.1.xyz so you could try the latest beta.
