Macro a macro with modulation

For live performance, I'm setting up effects with clip modulation such that I can control the range of the modulation using a macro knob. Sometimes the modulation range of the effect needs to be inverted, so that the range narrows into the higher limit (rather than the lower). To do this, I have found that I can macro the parameter, invert the range, and then create a modulation clip envelope on the macro instead of directly on the parameter itself. Once I do this, I can turn the macro knob, and changes the range of modulation in an inverse arrangement.
I would now like to take this device, and make several like it with other effects and modulations, and then control all of their modulation ranges simultaneously. So I would expect I could group them, and map one macro to each.
The problem I have run into is that the moment I map the macro to the macro, it seems to override the modulation. It seems to control the parameter directly, which is not what I want.
Does anyone have a method to do what I am trying to do?
