some of the media files such as samples could not be loaded

I have a project which is saved in dropbox.
When I open it from a computer different from the one that created it which has ALL the files synched and available I get:

some of the media files such as samples could not be loaded

I get no option to relink the files or anything else.
All the samples in the project are synched and available on the computer that I'm opening the document from, I can play them if I open them directly.
What's the cause of this and how do I fix t?

You misunderstand what's happening.
I haven't copied the project anywhere, it hasn't moved. It's always been in the same dropbox folder. All the links and correct paths to the samples are still there, the message doesn't say that they are not found, it says that they can't be loaded. I can't relink them because they are already linked...

As much as I appreciate your help, you're failing to understand the issue.
"can easily imply other file locations and such" It can easily imply a lot of things but that is NOT the problem THERE ARE NO MISSING FILES, there are PROBLEMS with them

Collect and save.

Yep and quit the Dropbox sync service. If Live is creating a temp file in the project folder, Dropbox may start syncing it and live cannot access it to write to while in use.

I'm on a MacBook pro

I had the same problem - files there - apparently not gone - just not loading in the project

Click on the offline sample and then Ctrl Click / Right click on the empty sample at the bottom of the daw then click "Show in Finder" (might be different if you're on Windows)

Takes you to the sample location - I found that when I clicked on the sample in the location folder and then copied it to clipboard - magically it also loaded in the DAW... I did this for all of my offline samples and I now have my project back ... hope this works for someone else too
