Electro/Techno productions made with ableton

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Louis Patrick. I have been living in dublin, ireland for the past 5 years. I make electro and techno under the name 'I.AM.AN.EXIT'. I have been producing electronic music for almost 3 years. I also play guitar, bass and a little piano, I used to write and record throwaway acoustic folk in my teens. I am influenced by Irish artists such as Decal and Donnacha Costello. And also by artists and labels from further afield such as UR, Laurent Garnier, Ian O Brien, Satamile among others. Outside of dance I am influenced by 70's, 80's and 90's alternative, rock, metal, industrial and folk.

I have set up a modest website at this URL:

http://www.i-am-an-exit.com/

I've uploaded a couple of my own tracks and would appreciate any input or feedback that people might have.

Numb:
This track uses a 'minimal' pallette to try and make a 'maximal' sound.
http://www.i-am-an-exit.com/music/i_am_an_exit-numb.mp3

Envelop:
This is just simple, linear, melodic techno, with some real mellotron and brass sounds.
http://www.i-am-an-exit.com/music/i_am_ ... nvelop.mp3

Drivatheory:
Melodic techno with a slightly eastern vibe, and a smattering of acid.
http://www.i-am-an-exit.com/music/i_am_ ... theory.mp3

A Stranger:
Simple, hard and pacey electro with a big breakdown. I think a lot of the so called nu-electro can disappear up its own hole a bit too much, what's wrong with just rocking out?
http://www.i-am-an-exit.com/music/i_am_ ... ranger.mp3

Globular:
With this electro track I wanted to try something different with the arrangement, make it less linear and more choppy. Sometimes the momentum is lost, but it keeps it a bit more interesting for me. I may need to refine it though.
http://www.i-am-an-exit.com/music/i_am_ ... obular.mp3

Tilting:
Another attempt to make a less linear arrangement in this melodic techno track. The drum patterns also change a bit during the track, going from very scattered to more simple and focussed as the track progresses.

All tracks made with ableton and some outboard gear.

Thanks for your time,
L. Patrick.

i run a night where i play some 4/4 music to punters in a 'trendy' pub

the schtick is that i use ableton to 'dj' with a couple controllers, but all the songs i play are net releases (no commercial traxx allowed)

i have d/l your stuff and dropped it in

just thought you'd like to know

mosca

if anyone else does - minimal techno/house let me know

edit : drivatheory is totally reminding me of the black dog for some reason

Love "Numb", really nice!! What synths did you use? Hardware, VSTi, Ableton's?

I really like your tracks..... I noticed your website is kind of bare. I can design you a website if you would like.

Zekrab: Thanks! I use an access virus (the first one) - that is the main melody/bass in the track. There's also a little loop of me plucking a guitar note, and the strings are from a pad sampled off a roland keyboard then run through the ableton bandpass filter. Also the litle pan pipe sound is sampled from the roland (some cheap crappy digital one).

As far as VST goes, I only pretty much use VST effects, and sparingly at that. I find I can get the best results just using ableton delays and filters, although one of my secret weapons is the north pole VST filter. For everything else I use the simpler with some pads or notes, or else the access virus, and I also have a microkorg too.

Lithium: Thanks also, I used to have a cluttered site, and now i've stripped it all back to the barest of the bare..... it's the way I like it! I just let the music do the talking.

ishimaru: thanks! I appreciate it.

what would be really exciting is being able to work together with the material used to produce these pieces (somethin like the ableton remix contest here: http://forcemajeure.fastorama.com/article.php?sid=152 )

who is interested in following this path ?
we could set up a dedicated internet site for that (I'm willing to help)

Cheers,
Fabien

Just listening to "Tilting", too.

I like your way of arrangement, which is fresh and mixing alike,
not as static as my tunes sound often.
