a midi out / audio in plugin

hi!
of course, live is about the nicest software around, but there's one thing that came to my mind a few days back wich could make it better, when using hardware synths and such.
wouldn't it be handy to have a plugin to insert on a midi channel that sends out midi to an external device (synth, sampler etc.) and receives audio in, making it work sort of like a vst? that would save an audio track per used midi track, and thus a lot of screen cluttering + hassle of keeping track of wich audio track belongs to wich midi track.
then perhaps there could be a sort of library of controller-indexes for synths, using this plugin, so you can just edit your synths from the plugin and keep the used settings in you live files! farewell lost sounds, farewell sound diver!
