Hanging notes when arming and recording midi

Whenever i arm a midi track (routed to a hardware synth) and play midi notes from my Keystep, it spits out a gazillion hanging notes, until i disarm it. The midi notes play fine when the track isn't armed. Likewise notes that are manually inputed on the piano roll play back fine as well. It's just when i come to record midi notes live.

Anyone had this or know what's going on?

FYI my setup is:

Macbook/Ableton Suite 10
Behringer UMC 1820 interface
Keystep
Roland JU-06A
Behringer Pro-1

I'm sending midi data to the 2 x synths thru the USB connected Keystep. I'm not using the midi ports on the UMC 1820 interface.

I think i've figured out the issue, it's the Roland JU-06A.

Because the JU-06A is powered by USB, and i also have it connected via Midi... it's somehow causing the note overload. I tried the synth without USB and used optional batteries to power it instead and this solved the issue.

Question is, if i don't want to rely on batteries all the time how can i connect the USB without having these issues?

Doesn't it send MIDI through USB?

Yeh pretty sure MIDI will be sent over USB and the din connections - you only need one of the other

And the first sentence in OP's first post really sounds like a feedback loop (a track's output somehow feeding back into its own input).
