Rewire not working: Reason to Ableton (both 32 bit)

Hello,
I would like to resurrect some old songs that i startet >15 years ago.
I'm on OSX Sierra 10.12.6 on a Trashcan MacPro.
and I actually found my Reason 5.0.1 (32 bit) install files and my tracks are opening just fine.
that's why i re-installed Ableton Live 9.77 in 32 bit.
I open Ableton first. the settings seem to be ok, only suspicious: the Rewire Multicore setting is greyed out, but i can switch it to ON.
When i then open Reason it still uses my Audio Interface and not Rewire. The Rewire LED stays grey.
In Ableton I obviously then don't get Reason as a Audio Input or Midi Device.
I also checked the library files in /Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/ReWire and the same in the User Library.
The files are there and if i delete them both applications write them back when opening them the next time.
Any suggestions what might be wrong?
Thanks for your help!
