Sidechain for Gate and Compressor

Please add a sidechain to the gate and compressor, so that 'ducking' and rhythmic gating effects are possible etc. Is this doable?
Thanks...
Sorry for posting in the wrong forum before!

I'd kind of given up asking because there are now a few vsts that do it, albeit not as nicely as ableton's own plugins might.
This feels a bit like the letter writing part in 'The Shawshank Redemption'
Pleeeeeeese, sidechainsssssssssssses.

co-signed. i still don't know a vst/au compressor for mac osx that's sidechainable and it's gonna be at least a year or two before i'm even thinking of getting a new system. would be nice to have sidechain comp in live because of that too.

Would be nice indeed, in a "all ableton solution"

The Logic gate and compresson have sidechains, why not live?

Win users: in the absence of an ableton sidechain compressor there are a few others around that you can use in Live. Here's a decent free one:

True sidechaining isnt poss with VST 2. Its coming with VST 3. When that is I dont know.
I was thinking myself that ABleton 5 might have had true sidechaining built in to its own plugins. The sidechain featire in comp11 isnt true sidechaining. It doesnt produce anything like the sound you would get with say Logic or TDM plugins sidechaining.
its a feauture I sorely miss

djretard,
this is the second time i hear you mentioning that you can't do sidechaining with vst2. could you please elaborate? vanilla comp, kjaerhus golden unipressor (i think that's its name) and voxengo crunchessor are all vst effects and support sidechaining. as far as i know they all work flawlessly in live 4.1.4 and probably v5 too.
is this something other than true sidechaining? i know multiple inputs are part of vst2.3 spec already at least.
i mean, you're right in the sense that you can't just select "i want this channel as my sidechain input" from a plugin but you can achieve the exact same thing with a little workaround (multiple inputs) that isn't clumsy or suspicious in any way (IMO).

erm... there's not very much you can do with sidechaining that you can't do with clip envelopes especially if you just wanna duck a bassline to a 4x4 kick...

It depends what kind of bass you're talking about, for a 4 bars loop, that's ok. Same for the kick. Plus having control over treshold, effect on or of for the sidechained comp is great. Lot of fun.
For now I use the TC one.

AHHHHHHHRRRRRRRGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!
for some reason, this drives me freakin crazy. What you are refering to as "true sidechaining" is actually the ability to use and "external key input." The sidechain eq on comp. 2 IS TRUE SIDECHAINING.
