I recently had this problem too. Motu 8a and mojave. Exact description of your problem. I updated to Catalina and reinstalled motu drivers and everything works as expected.

Hi guys I had the same problem with my ultralite mk3 FireWire and Ableton.
The problem is in the security preferences, you just have to authorize Ableton to acces at your microphone.
And, that’s all!!!

Apologies for bumping this - has anybody found a working solution yet?

I'm experiencing all of the issues mentioned by OP and have allowed all the correct microphone access, as the previous post suggests.

Any help would be amazing, I'm completely stuck!

Is your sound card driver up-to-date?
Did it used to work correctly, or is it a new setup?

I’ve made sure the drivers and soundcard are up to date.

It used to work correctly on my old laptop, but since switching to a new laptop it doesn’t

I’m using Windows if that helps at all.

It’s very strange, all the settings on Ableton have been set up correctly, and my audio interface is receiving signal - it’s just Ableton that isn’t receiving the audio signal!

I met quite same issue and solved ,wish this help.you may just go to Close Live.
Open System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Privacy > Microphone.Tick the box beside Ableton Live in the list to close ,then again to start it up,then reopen your live, you may find your input works fine.

same problem here. MOTU as well as other interfaces configured correctly, showing meter activity and working with other softwares but no signal coming in Ableton.
SO FRUSTRATING

I tip my cap to all of you. I was about to throw my equipment out of a window!
Updated to 10.15 - reinstalled about 100 drivers for all my gear -- booted up live --
Oh! No audio! Hmm...

Did you try to accept Ableton is using your mic (in Apple Mic settings)

Is this problem solved by any chance?

I can't say that it's my interface RME 800 or Ableton...

Thank you this worked. My Motu 16A showed a signal was being received on Channel 1, but Ableton did not show a signal on Channel 1.

I went to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy Tab > Microphone. Then you allow Ableton access to your microphone.
