Force active state for a m4l device

Hi there
Is there any solution or a workaround to force a m4l device to be always active without the need to click on it each time?
(in order to receive MIDI messages)
I just want to use my laptop's keyboard as a 4 octaves MIDI controller (using all the keys of the computer's keyboard).
I have seen that this is possible by using the [hi] object but I want to use the touchpad of my laptop only.
Thank you in advance.

I don’t think so but maybe you could map the keys to graphical controls of your patch ?

Yes, you are right chapelier.. this was my second approach.. but how can you handle note offs?
keymap is only for triggering aka note-on. There is no way to take data from the moment you stop to press a specific key => note off.
To be honest I am struggling with this for like ages. I have many controllers (like seaboard)
but I am always surprised by how straightforward is my laptop's keyboard and that, as it seems, I am the only one who appreciates this.
Any suggestions would be very helpful.
