File reference save does not work

So often now, when I load a new instrument there are missing files. It's easy enough to find them but if I save the file references, replace the instrument, then re-load the previous instrument the files are again missing?
Why aren't these file references saved?
This is just one file-management annoyance I'm having going back to Abelton 9. For example, why does the Drums option on the sidebar display 6 "Agogo High.adg" each with one cowbell? Who needs six instruments each with a single sound?!
