Im sure this has been hammered as a topic.
I am a late adopter. My ultra8 interface doesnt have drivers for windows 10.

I am really apprehensive about upgrading. I feel that I'm opening a huge can of worms.

My folders are scattered, I am running splice, and I never quite wrapped my head around the new library system in live 9.
I have the live 8 library right on the c drive. I have the vst's right on the c drive too.
The other folders live references are scattered about, but in the locations that Live put them in, default.
Everytime I have upgraded, or switched computers, its been a nightmare, with some live sets never perfectly restored.

What do I need to watch out for? Can I do this with out making a mess of everything, and endlessly having to find missing files?
Another complication is that all my data is on Idrive right now-my computer just got a fresh hard drive.
And......Ableton support is unavailable for two weeks

Advice will be MUCH appreciated!

Maybe for a better, non scattered filestructure on your new computer?
- programs at the c drive
- all catalogues (not only lives packs) at a separate disk or partition (take care, that your VST are installed / saved at one logical place. Not one her, one there. Sometimes you have to move dll files manually to keep it structured as installation routines sometimes are a bit rigid)
- all personal data (not only live sets, but all!) at a seperate disk / partition
I am running this concept since ages, no problems with updating, upgrading, chnging system (xp -> win 7 -> win 10 - > win nn ).
By the way, this concept makes backup routine easy.

It seems to be daunting, but if you plan carefully, your new system will be rewarding.

I have one M2 drive for my system and software (hence this PC is only for music making, only Win 10 pro, Ableton Live 10 suite and Reason 11 suite is there).

Also my VST's are in the proper folder on the C drive. My second drive is also a M2, containing my packs and samples and the songs I work on.

Last I have a 2TB HDD containg back-ups of all my songs, samples packs etc......

Last note, think before you move: do you need everything what is on your drive? As said before think and plan carefully!!!!
