How to mix several external synths?

For some projects I'm using an old Roland JV2080 as a 16 channel sound module.

Suppose I create 4 midi-tracks on which I drag and drop an external instrument. Each track has its own midi channel number.
After recording some melodies on the 4 tracks, I want to check the result. Sometimes one track/patch is much louder than the other, which is completely normal.

But when I change the position of the 4 faders, I can't control the 4 track separately: they seem to be connected somewhere: also the "solo" and "mute" functions don't work. So, I can't make a good mix.

Is there a way to control the volumes separately in a normal way?

The best way to handle mixing might be to st the MIDI so each voice has a healthy volume level, record each synth voice to its own audio track then mix the audio.

That is what I do.

Another "solution" is to change the value of the "Expression" value (CC011) of each midi-track to make a reasonable mix before dumping to audio.
But I was wondering if there were possibility to control the expression value via an external device, but if I press [MIDI] in Live that section of the clip characteristics doesn't light up. That's why I've posted my question.

Thanks to reply anyway!
