Swapping Layers W/O Losing the Release

Let's say I have an instrument rack with 3 layered sounds: an arp, strings, and a piano. I build up dynamics with the strings and arp (no piano yet) and when I hit the climax, then the strings and arp die away without losing the release and then the piano takes over. Is there a way to cut the strings and arp to where my midi notes no longer trigger those sounds and to where I can start playing piano while those sounds release?

Please see the intro to this song as an example of what I want to achieve:

34-40s mark

EDIT: Need to be able to do this with a single midi keyboard.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but Chain Selector in Instrument Racks already works like that. Switching Chains in a Instrument Rack doesn't mute the tails of notes already played. It filters the MIDI input, not the audio output.

Maybe you mean "sustain" instead of release? Chains would already filter MIDI CC Sustain off messages, but maybe you can use Note Length for that.

Maybe you want the opposite? You want to cutoff long MIDI notes when the Chain changes? I think that would need a M4L device that sends note offs, like these (didn't test them):
