Red automation dots turn gray. Like me... !

Hello,

1) Sometimes, the little red dots on the far right of the Arrangement View go gray*. [I think because I'm trying to do (2), below.] Is there any way to turn them back to red, please? The only solution I've found is to close and reopen the program. I suspect there's a more elegant solution!

2) When I've put control points on the volume automation line, is there any way to raise/lower the segments between them? If I click to do so, it just adds another control point. And the pencil makes it jaggy. [If I try to modify it from the volume button, I think that's when the entire line goes gray.]

Many thanks for any help.

* Sorry for the vague description. I don't know what that "panel/column/?" is called -- it has, for example: "7 Audio" at the top, then Mixer, Track Volume, and an expander button at the bottom -- and can't find its name in the manual. [I do check before asking stuff, here. :) ]

User input overrides recorded automation, you need to right-click the control or use the Re-Enable Automation button:

To move the lines you can hover then click right above the line (but not on it), or hold shift.
