can anyone else help determine what memory to buy to add to my laptop. currently 8gb but want to upgrade to 16gb

MacBook Pro (retina, 13-inch early 2013
processor 3ghz dual-core intel core i7
memory : 8gb 1600 ddr3
startup disk Macintosh HD
graphics = intel HD graphics 400 1536mb
serial = c02k646efgm8
this sort of information?
also whats the max memory I can have on this ?

To add memory to a Macbook you’ll need to either find out if a local Apple store can do the job for you or find instructions for doing the job online. As a general rule Macbooks are not designed to have user upgradable RAM.

nope, not possible. you cannot upgrade the RAM in Retina MacBook Pros, it's soldered to the board.

There are a few who claim to have managed to upgrade the soldered RAM in some MBPs (which requires more soldering work with SMC components to reconfigure the CPU’s RAM settings than “simply” unsoldering the old RAM and soldering in new matching RAM - if you can find any). I’m reasonably competent at soldering, but don’t think I’d care to risk trying it.
