Does anyone have experience using a Behringer FCB1010 floorboard midi controller with Live? I just got the board a couple days ago, and I can't seem to make it work with Live. It's able to send MIDI messages OK, but all of the 10 buttons are detected as channel 1/PB in Live, so it's impossible to use different buttons to trigger different actions. The expression pedals seem to work just fine, though. I've been able to use 2 other MIDI controllers with Live, no problem so I don't think it's a problem with my audio interface.

On my unit it just wouldn't work until I assigned the pedals to note on/off. There is a perfect sysex file available at the yahoo group for fcb1010 users.

Can you easily load the sysex file onto the Behringer and be all set? What's the link to the yahoo group?

I have a 1010 and have set up a few for friends. They work great once you get em set up, but for my friends' units, we had to perform a factory reset in order to get things going correctly. The yahoo group has all the reset info, as well as a document on how to re-calibrate your exp pedals if they aren't going all the way from 0-127. As for the midi channel, it is global on the 1010, meaning all of your patches will leave on the singular midi channel you choose. As far as midi commands, you can have up to 5 program changes, 4 (or is it 3) command changes, and a note on/off per patch, although often for use with Live you'll just be sending one midi message per patch. I'd recommend control changes over note/on off, as note on/offs might get confused with playing a midi keyboard (if applicable, and of course you could always have them on different midi channels). there's tons of 1010 info in these forums if you search, and the yahoo group is also very helpful. good luck

Jeff - I'd suggest visiting
http://www.mtnsys.com/faq-fcb/PCEditor.htm
and grabbing the editor as it's far easier to program and just dump the sysex to your FCB.
Hope this helps

The Yahoo! group address is
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fcb1010/
I successfully set up my FCB1010 thanks to a document there. Once you join, go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fcb1010/files/Live/ and there you will find a Word doc. Download it, follow the steps and you should be on your way.
It saved me a lot of hassle. I think the doc was originally posted somewhere in the Ableton forum -- whoever came up with it deserves a medal

I found that it was simpler (for me) to program the 1010 from itself, instead of using the above mentioned program.
I made buttons 1-10 be midi notes 1-10, without any 'program change' or CC messages. Just plain old midi notes.
You can choose for them all to be on channel 16, for example, so as to not get in the way of keyboards when you actually want to sound midi notes 1 - 10.
Do it on bank 0 and also banks 9 and 1, just in case you unknowingly hit bank up/down in the heat of the moment - better yet do it on all banks.
The manual is a compete cluster fcuk, I had a midi knowledgable person help me thru it the first time. It's a simple process that the manual osfusicates, once it becomes a little clearer you can get up in there.
