CV tools does not output 1V/Oct

Hey there,

my euro rack is connected to Ableton and I'm using CV tools, which works great.
The only thing is when I'm sending pitch CV to my oscillator, CV tools doesn't seam to follow the 1V/Oct standard. Its way off. Its more like 1V/2Oct. If i tune my oscillator to C1 and I play one octave higher the pitch of the oscillator is actually a bit higher than C3.
Of course I know that for accurate pitch I need to calibrate my oscillator. And than the pitch is more or less perfect in tune. But the calibration line of my oscillator is pretty straight. Shouldn't CV tools at least ruffly follow the 1V/Oct standard also without calibration?

I tried midi keyboards with 1V/Oct output into the oscillator and the pitch is just fine. Maybe I overlooked a button somewhere in CV tools for 1V/Oct or so? I mean not everything which should follow the pitch cv can be calibrated, if I want a filter without selfoscillation to follow the pitch cv than 1V/2Oct is very inconvenient.

:?
Cheers,
Hendrik

The calibration tool didn't do the job?

Yes after calibration the oscillator runs pitch correct. But like I wrote I just wonder why the cv tool doesn't output 1v/oct without calibration. I mean there are modules which can't be calibrated but they still should receive 1v/oct cv, like filters without selfoscillation.

Is really no one else bordered by the fact that without calibration it is not outputting 1v/oct?

I guess it's made to work with oscillators, and to be calibrated. But I don't know the exact answer to your question.
Maybe you could ask to [email protected]

I guess I will do that. thanks

I think it’s mainly dependent of the peak to peak voltage delivered by your interface.

Hm interesting thought. I'm using the TC electronics impact twin as an interface connected via ADAT to Expert Sleepers ES-3 and ES-6 modules. Since ADAT is a digital connection I assume that there shouldn't be any peak to peak variations.

ES modules are probably calibrated to -10 to 10V Peak to Peak, or something like that.Regular sound cards have no reason to be calibrated to a round number.

There's a bit info about this in our KB article: https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/artic ... hnical-FAQ
"The CV Instrument device is only capable of calibrating oscillators that use bipolar voltage (+/-5V) for 1v/oct. tuning."
