Hello all

I recently got a Behringer CRAVE analog synth and have been using it with Live 10. Im trying to synchronize the them but am running into a strange issue (or common, not sure). I have the "Track" "Sync" & "Remote" buttons activated for both MIDI IN and OUT within Ableton's MIDI preferences. I also have the clock source for the CRAVE set to "Auto" for anybody familiar with Behringer's "SynthTool" app.

Im able to get sound into Live and send MIDI out to the CRAVE (by pressing keys on my MIDI keyboard as well as using Live's arpeggiator to generate note sequences). However, as soon as I hit the arrangement "play" button and Live begins to play...all sound stops and Im unable to generate any sound by pressing keys on the midi keyboard, on the CRAVE itself or from Live's arpeggiator. I see the pattern buttons on the CRAVE moving in sync (BPM) with Live's metronome but again...no sound can be generated (if Live is playing).

Im basically trying to use Live's arpeggiator to run sequences on the CRAVE but have it synced to Live's clock (and be able to play/record them). This seems like a simple fix but Ive tried adjusting the MIDI options in Live and not much changes. This is one of my first analog synths so Im a bit a newb so any help would be much appreciated.

Ableton 10

it sounds like the Crave's onboard pattern sequencer is conflicting with Live's clock.

you wrote that you changed the midi options in Live, what did you change? there are some kind of buried details.

did you play with the type of midi clock Live is sending?

dumb question but can you use the Crave with Live playing without Crave's pattern sequencer running?

if you turn off all clocking can you play the Crave while Live's play button is active?

looks like a cool box, the manual doesn't say anything about synchronizing it.

I agree, the 2 clock sources are conflicting.

Ive since modified settings on the CRAVE and Ableton and have been able to fix the issue of no audio being produced once I hit PLAY on Ableton. Now I am able to generate and record audio from the CRAVE when Ableton is playing. Now when I hit PLAY on Ableton, the pattern/sequencer lights on the CRAVE do not cycle though as they did before. What seemed to do the trick was to leave the CRAVE's clock source as "MIDI USB" (within the CRAVE's Synth Tool) and set Ableton's Link MIDI Output Port settings as:

TRACK - ON
SYNC - OFF
REMOTE - ON

However...they're still not in sync. When using Ableton's arpeggiator or creating midi clips, the CRAVE is audibly out of sync with Ableton's metronome. Modifying the MIDI Clock Sync Delay millisecond values and/or toggling the SYNC option for the CRAVE's MIDI OUT port in Ableton also has no impact on timing.

I'd go the a Crave user forum to see how other people are using it. I'm impressed with the design, to me it smells like this - if it was meant to be slaved to external devices Behringer is a well known company for making devices that work WITH DAWS, their business model relies on other peoples' software, like Ableton to record and perform with Crave.

so, maybe this is the universe saying that part of the Crave experience is using it 'without a safety net' thus making it more of a 'real instrument' being unleashed like that. a more traditionalist approach. they do feature the Moog filter ladder in it so maybe one day while Behringer was sitting around smoking weed they decided to take it so far so to be unsynchable. shit, they even say the thing has to WARM UP before using it.

it's too cool to be synched man... you have to play it. that doesn't make it unusable, it's just a tool, use it as such. blah blah blah

curious thread though, I am intrigued.
